Andrew Cappie-Wood

ACT Chief Minister’s Department
Andrew Cappie-Wood has a long and distinguished career in the public service having been Director-General of a number of different departments in New South Wales.
In July 2007 he took up the position of Chief Executive of the Chief Minister’s Department in the Australian Capital Territory.
This role encompasses the responsibilities of head of the ACT public service and Secretary to Cabinet. Prior to this he was heading the largest education system in Australia, the NSW Department of Education and Training. During this time he experienced the challenges of leading an organisation with over 130,000 staff and a budget of over $10 billion.
In 2007 he was made an Honorary Adjunct Professor of the Sydney University Faculty of Education and Social Work.Previously Andrew was head of the NSW Department of Housing for eight years with shorter stints running the Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care and the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
Andrew was Chair of the Human Services CEOs Forum for three years.Andrew’s qualifications are in geography as well as land use management and planning and his earlier career involved working in planning and land agencies in NSW.
Andrew is an honorary life member of the Chartered Institute of Housing - UK and a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration.
